Merchant Mariner Credential renewal checklist
Use this checklist to organize a renewal application. The U.S. Coast Guard National Maritime Center decides the current requirements for your credential, endorsements, and circumstances.
Before you begin
- Review your current MMC, endorsements, and expiration dates.
- Use the National Maritime Center checklist for the exact credential and endorsements you intend to renew.
- Confirm whether a current TWIC, medical certificate, drug-testing evidence, sea service, training, assessments, or other records apply to you.
- Do not assume another mariner’s renewal path applies to yours.
Organize the application
- Download the current application forms and checklist from the NMC.
- Complete the required application materials, including Form CG-719B and any additional forms the NMC checklist identifies for your case.
- Gather supporting records, such as qualifying sea service, course certificates, assessments, or employment documentation when applicable.
- Review each document for complete, readable information before submission.
- Pay the applicable federal fees through the official process when required.
Submit and follow through
- Submit through the official NMC application process and follow its file-format and submission instructions.
- Keep confirmation and copies of everything submitted.
- Monitor the official NMC channel for requests for additional information and respond by the stated deadline.
- After issuance, update your credential record in Vessel Masters so your profile reflects the current document.
Important
Vessel Masters helps you organize credential records; it does not renew, issue, or determine eligibility for an MMC. Regulations and NMC procedures can change. Follow the current official NMC checklist and instructions for your specific renewal.
